Catch-Up!

Well, it’s been a busy few weeks for us, both at home and at work…which meant no blog posts! Boo! So here’s the catch-up from the past few weeks…

At 17 weeks pregnant, our baby was the size of an onion (5.1 inches, 5.9 oz) and developed one-of-a-kind fingerprints and footprints! I’ve read that the prints are unique to each person because they are formed by the amniotic fluid swirling around the body at the time, which would be different for every single person on earth.

I had to take out my belly button ring with this pregnancy at 17 weeks for two main reasons: my belly button was VERY angry and having Rock around to rough house with and kick it when I held him on my hip, was just too unbearable to deal with for the next 27 weeks. I am a happy mama now that the ring is out, but I do miss the belly decoration…I haven’t been ring-less since my 18th birthday!

We also went to our first circus where Rock and Phil road an elephant and we saw all of the crazy sites you would expect at a circus! And our new friend Reagann Lee White was born on May 20th ! We felt blessed to spend time at the hospital with mom and dad (Justin and Amy) the night before her arrival and even got to meet Reagann the same day she was born! Rock and his buddy Ethan were already trying to make a good impression on this beautiful girl!

At 18 weeks, we had a sweet potato (5.6 inches, 6.7 oz)! We spent the week preparing for our first annual Memorial Weekend Campout with my Wyoming family since Rock was born. We didn’t go last year, when Rock was 7 months old, for a few reasons (Rock and I were both sick and it was snowing sideways when we drove up to camp for the day to visit), but we were up for the challenge this year…or so we thought! We were packed and ready to walk out the door Friday morning, when Rock woke up with a 103 degree fever! That sent us straight into contingency planning and to an emergency doctor appointment to clear him for camping before we got away from civilization. We still made the trip, but it was less than glamorous with Rock’s behavior and my stressed-out mood swings all weekend. Phil was the knight in shining armor…without him, Rock and I would have headed home 10 different times when life got tough!

The day after we got home from camping, I turned 19 weeks pregnant. So our baby is currently the size of a mango (6 inches, 8.5 oz) and the skin is officially coated in vernix (a mixture of lanugo hair, oil, and dead skin cells to protect the skin from the amniotic fluid).

We are excitedly awaiting our 20 week ultrasound tomorrow! (I am obviously only 19 weeks pregnant but the doctor still let me make the appointment!) We can’t wait!!! It is amazing how preoccupied I was with the baby’s gender for so many weeks, and now that the appointment is near, I just pray for a healthy baby…no matter whether it’s a boy or a girl!

16 Week Appt

We have an avocado! I love that my weekly emails give me a concrete image of the size of our baby. The baby is already 4.6 inches and 3.5 ounces and forming bones in his/her ears to hear and forming taste buds, eye brows, and eye lashes. It will be fun to see the hair color…for some reason I was completely surprised when Rock was born with red hair.

We had a successful 16-week appointment last Friday, complete with a 150 bpm heartbeat and 150 lb weigh in (I can’t believe I just wrote that!). I’ve gained 10 pounds already since my first OB appointment (and I know I gained a few pounds before I even went to my first appointment)…so I’m cruising right along! A “healthy” weight gain is around 29 pounds…so hopefully I slow down adding digits to the scale now that I’m not eating to curb my nausea. We’ll see…

We were able to make our 20-week ultrasound appointment for May 31st! We will be praying for healthy measurements and the baby’s gender to be revealed!!! Maybe then we’ll be motivated to get Rock moved into a new room and transition him to a big boy bed so we can get the baby’s room all setup and ready. (We plan to cycle kids through the same crib and small bedroom in our house…we’ll see if that plan works out or not!)

So excited!

I am SO excited for the upcoming weeks and months of my pregnancy! We have my 16-week appointment tomorrow (even though I’m only 15.5 weeks along), where we should be able to hear the heartbeat again! After that I will be making my 20-week ultrasound appointment…so exciting!

I’m also happy because I haven’t felt nauseous for nearly two weeks now, which makes a HUGE difference in my life! Now I can focus on all of the fun of being pregnant, rather than the few drawbacks. Some of the recent fun includes: putting in my new maternity belly button ring (already!), finding some great deals on maternity shirts for work (yay!), realizing that in the not-so-distant-future I will start to feel the baby’s movements (I can’t wait!!!)…and did I mention, I haven’t felt nauseous lately (LOL!).

I’m so thankful for this baby too because the first time I was pregnant I remember telling Phil “I can’t imagine NOT doing this again.” But this pregnancy is fulfilling that desire and I’m kind of excited to know that if we only have two children, that will be ok. If God wants to bless us with more, I’m sure we would be thrilled…but we’ll see what His plans are for us…

Last week baby was the size of a lemon and this week the size of a navel orange (4 inches, 2.5 oz)…4 inches already, wow! Evidently the baby is now able to suck his/her thumb, breath amniotic fluid, and urinate! And with newly formed joints on all the limbs, the baby is moving around like crazy…but I haven’t officially felt the movements yet.
